EC Report for July 2019

EC Report for July 2019

Hello,

The schedule for the month of June, 2019, was 1 Monthly F.C. EmComm Meeting, 4 Monday Night Nets, 2 Message Handling Practices, 2 Digital Practices, 1 EmComm & Coffee, and 1 Public Service Events.

Fresno County ARES and Ridgecrest Quake

I would like to thank Chris – KJ6OUG for coming up on the RACES repeater after the 7.1 Earthquake July 6th. He activated a impromptu net for our people to check in with their status and availability. Although we were not activated were available for mutual aid.

The only ARES Group that was activated was Western Kern County and that was by the Kern County OES. I have not seen an after-action report for them yet so I have no information of their activities except of having difficulty communicating with Ridgecrest. Ridgecrest is on the other side of a mountain range with no repeater connection. The after-action report should be interesting when it is completed.

NVIS HF communications has been discussed as an alternative means of communications when repeater systems are not available. NVIS is the topic of our training segment of the July 25th Fresno County EmComm Meeting. Hope to see you there.

Midnight Madness

July 18 to 20 our ARES Group has monitored the 147.180 Mhz repeater for the Midnight Madness Poker Run put on by the Clovis Independent 4 wheel drive club. This is one of the larger events for four wheel enthusiast in the state. We monitored the repeater to supply communications to the valley for the participants as well as health and welfare traffic.

I would like to than the following members of ARES for their time and efforts:

Pearl (K7UNA), Sariah (KN6UCB), Gary (KI6OYW), Dan (WL7COO), Craig (W6CMR), Bob (KM6BNY), James (K6JDM), James (NZ1ON), Kayli (K0WAI), Gary (KM6CVB) and Chris (KJ7OUG).

ARES Traffic/Digital Practice

Fresno ARES/RACES is conducting an on-the-air Traffic Handling practice twice a month alternating with FLDIGI after our regular Monday night EmComm Nets. Brian has been sending a message using the ARRL Message Form. After the practice the copied message was emailed to Brian to check accuracy and log your time on ARES Connect.

On the digital side we have a short net using Fldigi with Psk-31. This lets us iron out any problems we are having and allowing us practice using macro setting. We will soon be applying Flmsg into the mix; this will allow us to send message forms preparing us to better serve our served agencies.

If you are interested in taking part with the digital modes and would like assistance getting started you may go to our website and read the slide presentation provided by Brian (K6OGR) in the training section. If you need more help, you may contact Brian (K6OGR) at k6ogr@outlook.com, Richard (KE6SHL) at Richard_pac@prodigy.net or myself at N6HEW2@gmail.com.

The practice will continue after the nets so join us and have some fun.

EmComm Website

We are now posting events and meetings on the calendar as well as posting articles on the home page. There is a lot of new information and links added to the site as well thanks to our Webmaster Brian (K6OGR). Check us out at fcemcomm.org

Net Control Staff Needed

We are looking for volunteers to take a turn as net control on Monday nights. This is not a difficult task. We will provide the preamble and net roster. This is a great way to enhance your skills running a net for emergency situations. If you are interested, please contact Gary (KI6OYW) at 559-269-1340 or email g_greenberg@att.net
