The schedule for the month of August 2018: 4 Monday Night Nets, 1 EmComm Meeting and 1 EmComm & Coffee.
EmComm and Training Meetings
I would like to remind you all that the EmComm Meetings are important to all members. Not only are the meeting used to disperse information pertinent to our organization but they are a venue for training.
Chris Johnson (KJ6OUG) is teaching the curriculum for our MAC Training at the meetings. This training will give us the ability to rank our members as to their knowledge of our craft as well as you experience. With the ARRL revamping of the ARES program this will be imperative to our complying with their new requirements. Chris will post the classes on the website in the near future, but it is a lot easier to attend a meeting and take the class.
ARRL Making Changes to ARES
The ARRL is in the process of making changes to the ARES Program. They are updating the training requirements in effort to modernize and standardize the national ARES program. The ARRL is having the Section Managers, Section ECs and Section AECs try and digest the document and give their opinion. This leaves out the rank and file. In other words we as a local ARES Group have no say in this.
I have read both the article in September’s QST and the ARRL Static Plan itself. The one item that I don’t agree with is all of the ICS training that they want us to take. It seems that we are held to the same standards as FEMA managers are required to have. I don’t think that local ECs will be entrusted with setting up an ICP on their own. Well that is just my humble opinion and that and $4.50 will get you a cup of coffee at Starbucks.
If you are interested in reading the Static Plan in its entirety the link is as follows:

2018 Public Service EVENTS
September 15, 2018 – Tour de Fresno Bicycle Ride
October 06, 2018 – Grizzly Century Ride
October 13, 2018 – Bass Lake Double Century Bicycle Ride
If you would like to volunteer to work one or more of these events please go to k6arp.org and signup. You can also email Rob Mavis at (AE6GE@ae6ge.com).
Remember that we use these public service events as training venues. We recommend that you participate in at least three events a year. Soon this will be mandatory for you to keep your ability to be deployed during a disaster. Remember that we want to have qualifications and operational levels for our operators. This will help when we are asked to perform mutual aid for other County ARES/RACES Groups. When they ask for help, they want our people qualified.
We are now posting events and meetings on the calendar as well as posting articles on the home page. There is a lot of new information and links added to the site as well thanks to our Webmaster Brian (K6OGR)
Check us out at fcemcomm.org.
Net Control Staff Needed
We are looking for volunteers to take a turn as net control on Monday nights. This is not a difficult task. We will provide the preamble and net roster. This is a great way to enhance your skills running a net for emergency situations. If you are interested, please contact Gary (KI6OYW) at 559-269-1340 or email firstname.lastname@example.org
Don’t forget the Monday Night EmComm Net at 19:30 hr. on the 147.15 MHz Pl 141.3. We have some good information and camaraderie. On the third Friday of the month there is the EmComm & Coffee at YFC on Cedar south of Ashlan in Granite Park at 07:00hr. And last but not least the EmComm Meetings are held on the Fourth Thursday of month. Our next meeting will be August 23 , 2018 at 1900 hr. at the Hinds Hospice Building, 2490 W. Shaw Fresno.
