October EmComm Meeting (What you missed)

Training Agenda:

  1. Introduction to

James Majors (KD6JDM) gave a very interesting presentation on what Winlink is and how to set up your equipment to use it. He also discussed the many templates and forms that can be used to help us communicate for our served agencies. We will be looking forward to having more training sessions on the subject so that we can use this mode in the future.

  1. Review of ARES Skills Assessment submittals

I brought up the importance of receiving the ARES Skills Assessment Questionnaire completed and returned to our training officer. The information is vital; we are using the data to set up future training as well as understand in what direction you would like to see our organization go. If you have not completed this form out please do and return it to Chris Johnson (KI6OUG) our training officer.

  1. Expanding the weekly net to include various ways to peak interest

James Majors and I attended a seminar at Pacificon that discussed the importance of keeping our weekly nets fresh and interesting. It was suggested we kick things up a notch or two by changing things, like jumping to another repeater to check out of the net simulating a repeater failure to our regular machine. We can also ask for information about your station, such as do you have emergency power available. We will be looking into other options in the near future.

  1. Should we have officers for ARES?  (at a minimum should be keeping copious notes)

James and I discussed the need for Officers for the ARES Group, and it was decided at the meeting that what we needed was a scribe to take notes during the monthly meeting so we would not forget what we had discussed. We have come up with some great ideas and over time forgoten what they were. Steve Wichert (AG6JI) volunteered to be the scribe.

  1. PACIFICON recap

The recap consisted of a round robin discussion of the experiences of the members that attended the convention.  We told of the seminars we attended and what we thought of them. All and all everyone seemed to have had a great time.

We are now posting events and meetings on the calendar as well as posting articles on the home page. Check us out at

Net Control Staff Needed

We are looking for volunteers to take a turn as net control on Monday nights. This is not a difficult task. We will provide the preamble and net roster. This is a great way to enhance your skills running a net for emergency situations. If you are interested, please contact Gary (KI6OYW) at 559-269-1340 or email
