ARES EC Publication July 2017

EC Report for July  2017

Hi All,

The schedule for the month of July was: 4 Monday Night EmComm Nets and 1 EmComm and Coffee, 1 EmComm Monthly Meeting and 1 public service event.

 Change of Venue

August first we will be changing our meeting location from The Salvation Army Citadel on Fulton St. to the Hinds Hospice Building at 2490 W. Shaw in Fresno. The change was made do to the fact that the new major, who is in command of the Fresno Citadel wants to start to charge us $150 each time we use his facility. We as ARES/RACES Group do not have the funding to stay.  We do thank the Salvation Army for the years of support that we have enjoyed in the past, and if the next officer is more ham friendly we might be able to return.

Tour de Lakes

This year CARP (Clovis Armature Radio Pioneers) was asked to supply health and welfare communication for the Tour de Lakes Ride sponsored by the Fresno Cycling Club. This ride has not been done by CARP before so Rob had to put a communication plan together at the last minute, he did a great job.

The ride stated at the Dinkey Creek Rd. rest stop area, ran to Courtright Lake, back to Wishon Lake and returned to the Dinkey Creek Rd. rest stop. The course covers about 57 miles.

This was another great training tool and lets us practice our trade.

.North SJV EC Summit

July 13th Gary (KI6OYW) and I attended the first North SJV Summit at the CHP Office in Oakhurst. Five of the 12 ECs in the SJV ARRL Section were present. This was a time for discussions concerning maintaining moral, training and levels of ARES members qualifications. Some of the Counties have several levels of operators, this is a great idea for it will let us know what level of experience and training members have. When we are asked for mutual aid the receiving party will know what your abilities are.

This was the first summit and there will be more to follow. Pacificon, Rally in the Valley, and quarterly meetings were discussed. It is great to be able to have a round table discussion with EC,s from the other counties, exchange ideas and put a face with the name and call.

Net Control Staff Needed

We are looking for volunteers to take a turn as net control on Monday nights. This is not a difficult task. We will provide the preamble and net roster. This is a great way to enhance your skills running a net for emergency situations. If you are interested, please contact Gary (KI6OYW) at 559-269-1340 or email g_greenberg@att.net

Our Calendar

Don’t forget the Monday Night EmComm Net at 19:30 hr. on the 147.15 MHz Pl 141.3. We have some good information and camaraderie. And last but not least the EmComm Meetings are held on the Fourth Thursday of month. Our next meeting will be August 24 , 2017 at 1900 hr. at the Hinds Hospice Building, 2490 W. Shaw Fresno.
